Commercial range and cooktop repairs: gas and electric

Range or cooktop playing up before service? Call 0800 90 60 30. CES Wellington repairs commercial ranges and cooktops, gas and electric — including commercial stoves on the cookline. We offer same-day response, and emergency response within 2 hours.

The range is the heart of the line. When a burner won't light or a hob goes cold, every order slows down. Our factory-trained technicians find the fault, fix it properly and get you cooking again.

For oven faults under the range, see commercial oven repairs. For dishwashers and other gear, see commercial kitchen equipment repairs.

Gas and electrical in one visit

Most commercial ranges aren't just gas. Plenty have electronic ignition, flame failure systems, fans or controls that need power. Some are gas on top with an electric oven underneath.

Our factory-trained technicians are registered gas and electrical technicians. That means one visit covers both sides of the job. No waiting on a second trade. You get gas or electrical certification as required, along with an electronic service report for every item we work on.

Common range and cooktop faults we fix

We won't guess at a fault over the phone. But these are the kinds of problems restaurants and cafés call us about:

  • Pilot won't stay lit. It lights, then drops out as soon as you let go of the knob.
  • Thermocouple or flame failure faults. The safety system shuts the gas off when it shouldn't.
  • Burners lighting unevenly. Some ports lit, some not, or a flame that lifts or pops.
  • Yellow or lazy flame. Usually a sign the burner needs attention. It's wasting gas and can soot up pans.
  • Igniters not sparking. Clicking with no light, or no click at all.
  • Stiff or sticking knobs and valves. Hard to turn, or won't hold a low setting.
  • Gas smell. Always treat this as urgent. See below.
  • Electric hob elements failing. A plate or element that's gone cold, or only heats on one setting.
  • Switches and controls. Faulty switches, a hob that trips the power, or indicator lights that stay on or off when they shouldn't.
  • Oven under the range not heating. We fix these too. For oven faults in detail, see commercial oven repairs.

If you smell gas

Turn the gas off at the isolation valve, if it's safe to do so. Then call us on 0800 90 60 30.

Please don't try to fix gas faults yourself. Leave the panels on and the burners alone. Gas work needs a registered gas technician, and the job needs certifying.

For other faults, it helps if you can grab the make, model and serial number off the rating plate before you call. Tell us which burners or elements are out, and your trading hours. More tips on our before you call page.

What happens on a repair visit

  1. You call or email. We ask what the range or cooktop is doing and how urgent it is.
  2. A factory-trained technician arrives and talks to whoever's on shift.
  3. They test and diagnose both the gas and electrical side before pulling anything apart.
  4. They explain what they've found in plain English, and what it'll take to fix.
  5. They repair it, on the spot if the part is on hand. If a part has to be ordered, we'll tell you.
  6. They test it again and certify the work as required.

If we find other work while we're there, we'll tell you and quote it. Nothing extra goes ahead without your OK.

Brands we work on

CES Wellington are service agents for Moffat, Blue Seal, Waldorf and Turbofan, names you'll see on plenty of commercial cooklines. Got another make? Call with the brand and model and we'll tell you straight whether we can help.

We only work on commercial cooking equipment, not home ranges or cooktops.

What you get after every job

  • An electronic service report for every item we work on.
  • Gas or electrical certification as required.
  • A quote for any extra work we find.
  • A 90-day parts and labour warranty on our work.

Stop the next breakdown

Most range and cooktop faults start small. A dirty burner, a tired thermocouple or a valve that's getting stiff. Regular servicing picks these up before they stop you on a full night.

Planned maintenance is every 4 months or six-monthly. If your kitchen trades 7 days or runs early to late, quarterly visits may suit better. See planned maintenance.
