Commercial gas appliance repair and safety checks in Wellington
CES Wellington repairs and safety-checks commercial gas cooking equipment for restaurants, cafés, hotels and institutional kitchens across Greater Wellington. Our technicians are registered gas technicians, so the work is done properly and you get gas certification as required.
Gas appliances we repair
We work on the gas equipment that makes up a commercial cookline:
- gas ranges and cooktops
- gas ovens, including convection and combi ovens
- fryers
- griddles and chargrills
- salamanders
- wok burners
- conveyor pizza ovens.
We work on brands including Blue Seal, Waldorf, Rational and Convotherm. See the brands page for the full list.
Commercial gas oven repair
Common gas oven faults include:
- pilot won't light or won't stay lit
- burners lighting unevenly or with a poor flame
- oven not reaching or holding temperature
- ignition faults
- thermocouple or flame failure device faults
- control and thermostat problems.
Many gas appliances also have electrical parts, such as igniters, fans and controls. Because our technicians are registered electrical and gas technicians, one visit covers both sides of the fault.
Gas safety checks
A gas safety check confirms each appliance is working safely and as designed. On a safety check our technicians:
- check for gas leaks at connections and fittings
- check burners, flame picture and ignition
- test flame failure devices and thermocouples
- check gas pressure and regulators
- check hoses, connections and isolation valves
- look at the condition of each appliance and note anything that needs attention.
You get a service report for each appliance, with gas certification as required. If we find additional work, we quote it so you can plan the repair.
Gas and electrical certification
CES Wellington does both gas and electrical certification. Our technicians are registered for gas and electrical work, so we provide certification as required:
- after a gas appliance is repaired or has gas parts replaced
- after electrical repairs to ovens, fryers and dishwashers
- when equipment is installed, moved or reconnected
- when a landlord, insurer, council or head office asks for proof of safe work.
Many appliances, such as gas combi ovens and gas fryers with electric controls, need both trades, and we can often handle both in one visit. Each job comes with a digital service report, plus any certification, so the paperwork is in one place for audits and inspections. Certification is also provided as required on planned maintenance visits.
If you smell gas
Turn off the gas at the isolation valve if it's safe to do so. Don't use electrical switches or naked flames, open doors and windows, and get people out. If the smell is strong or doesn't clear, leave the building and call 111 or your gas supplier's emergency line from outside. Once the area is safe, call us on 0800 90 60 30.
Planned maintenance for gas cooklines
A busy gas cookline works hard, and small problems like a weak pilot or a sticking valve can turn into a breakdown during service. Planned maintenance, every 4 months or six-monthly, with quarterly visits for kitchens trading 7 days a week or running early to late, keeps burners clean, checks safety devices and picks up wear early. For kitchens with a lot of gas equipment, or groups with several sites, we offer asset management so each appliance has a record of its service history and condition. See planned maintenance.

Yes. Our technicians are registered gas and electrical technicians.
Will I get gas certification after the work?
Yes. Every job gets a service report, with gas certification as required for the work done.
How often should our gas appliances be checked?
For a busy cookline, planned maintenance that is every 4 months or six-monthly, with quarterly visits for kitchens trading 7 days a week or running early to late, suits most kitchens. We'll recommend a schedule based on your equipment and how hard it works.
Do you provide both gas and electrical certification?
Yes. CES Wellington does both, as required for the work done, alongside your digital service report.
Can you do gas and electrical work on the same visit?
Often, yes. That saves you booking two trades.
My pilot keeps going out. Can you fix it?
Yes. It's often a thermocouple, pilot assembly or gas valve fault, which our registered gas technicians can test and replace.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
